Hemingways is an independent sales and marketing company based in Ripon, North Yorkshire. The company was first established in Leeds in 1918 and during its history has been involved in a number of business activities including furniture retailing, department store retailing, consumer credit and confectionery distribution.

Hemingways Marketing Services was established as a trading company in 1947. Hemingways takes its name from the company’s founder John Hemingway who started his business issuing Star Credit Vouchers – an early form of gift vouchers.

The main trading arm is Hemingways Marketing Services Ltd, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hemingways (Furnishers) Ltd – the name a throwback to the days when Hemingways ran a number of furniture stores around West Yorkshire. Hemingways also operates a property side to the business.

Hemingways remains an independent company operating in a number of niche markets, primarily retail gift vouchers, gift cards and branded confectionery. In all cases our operations involve working on a national scale with big brands and high volume sales.

Operations now include wholesale and consumer sales on behalf of Cadbury and Green & Black's; white label gift voucher and gift card solutions for over 35 major retailers; corporate fulfilment services via our dedicated handling operation - Vex Accounts; The Gift List - an online wedding and gift list service; and consumer and corporate voucher sales via Voucher Express.
